David Shepherd (born in 1931) is now commonly acknowledged as the leading wildlife artist. He has dedicated his life to conservation of wildlife and particularly on many globally endangered species.

The success of his African Wildlife painting once made him to consider his contribution to the balance of nature. He is one of the few people who realized the absolute need for change in order to preserve the wildlife on Earth. Fortunately, David Shepherd has been able to use his fame as a prominent artist and being a 'celebrity' status to help the endangered species on the brink of extinction.

The first painting depicting an African bull elephant emerged in early 60's; it was published and distributed by Boots. Published as a poster print, it was called the 'Wise old Elephant'. The publication has very vague prospects at first, but then it sold in millions and David Shepherd became famous overnight. Since then he has had a brilliant career. He released a series of autographed, limited edition prints. Every single edition of over 800 prints was sold hours, with a line of people waiting to get his next publication.

Even a small dormouse print that David Shepherd published in 1990 as part of a limited edition set of 1500 prints is now valued at approximately 750-850 pounds. Collectors who buy pieces of art as a good investment, view the originals and initial work of David Shepherd very valuable. His most famous and noteworthy works are definitely the Tiger Fire, Tiger in the Sun and Elephant Heaven. Though often collectors buy his works just as an investment, they surely enjoy the chic of David's paintings adorning their walls.

In his paintings, David Shepherd puts great emphasis on certain values and, as an artist, he works hard to achieve them. Several times on the television and through his televised discussions he underscored the value of conservation and preservation of the endangered species. He has managed to mobilize significant funds to assist conservation efforts globally.

The artist proactively supports various ambitious projects that have a goal of preserving wildlife and endangered species. He works selflessly to retain the values of wildlife conservation in daily activities. As one of his great achievements was to mobilize over four million pounds in grants to support various conservation projects in Asia and Africa.

He celebrated his 70th birthday in 2001 by raising over 100,000 pounds for wildlife projects by hosting a fundraising dinner at the Natural History Museum. David permanently lives in West Sussex with his spouse Avril and four daughters who are known to share his passion for wildlife and are truly dedicated to the work of their father.
