I have been online for a couple of years now, but recently just started to take my website more seriously. In a short while I learned a lot about SEO and online marketing. And I decided to share some of it with you.
Number one there is no quick way to get traffic to you site any more. All them these experts saying that you can get thousands of visitors to your blog in a month are full of it. It’s not impossible but very unlikely. I started my blog and in the first month I saw about a hundred visitors. In month two about two hundred people and it started to steadily climb from there. But like any business it takes time.
So how do you get traffic? If you read articles online most will tell you articles marketing, blog commenting, and forum posting. They are in fact right, but let me brake it down further.
Lets start with forums. Forum links don’t count for much as far as search engine rank, but they are pretty easy to get and are a good starting point. Start by find four forums you are interested in that allow for a Signature. It doesn’t matter if they have anything to do with your website. All find threads your interested in and post meaningful replies.
Having interest in a forum thread is very important. It makes them easier to read and insures that you know something about what you are replying to. This way you and your business look good when you post.
Next is blog commenting. First thing you do with this is do a search for a list of dofollow blogs. I’m going to go into this right now. Just know you want dofollow blogs for your first few comments. Again look for blog that have to do with your interest. Then go to them and post your comments.
To do this you usually have to go to the bottom of the page and find the comment box. There you put a name, your email, and a website address. In some cases you can only use a tweeter account or face book page. If you have either use them.
Here is a few tips when leaving comments. One don’t just say hi or only put your link. This is spam and most places won’t post your comment. Instead post more facts the author mite have missed or a positive feed back. Second try to make your comment at least ten words long, but don’t go over 60 words. Long comments will get you more notice, but too long and no one will want to read them. Third never use insults. If you can’t write something nice just move on to the next post.
Now lets go to articles marketing. This one takes a lot of time. The articles you write and submit to other sites can’t be generic. They also should be easy to read and interesting. And on top of all that try to keep them below six hundred words if possible.
Once written submit them to sites like ezine, but don’t just count on the big directories to take your article. Try to find sites that are not that old, but look like they will stick around for while and post your article to them also. If the newer site grows your articles may get a good spot and be the first to get traffic to it.
To tell if a new directory may stick around do research. Find ones that are at least a year or two old. They should have at least a few articles on them already and shouldn’t be on a shared host with many other directories. All these thing shows that the webmaster is serious about his directory.
I hope this clears things up for you and doesn’t stop you from starting your own website.

1. Submit your blog/site to search engines (google, yahoo, bing). Though they would automatically start to index your pages, submitting just quickens the process.
2. Add your site/blog url to your email signature, especially the business ones.
3. Most social networking sites (facebook, google plus...) have an area where you can add your blog or website. Make sure you add an entry there. Your profile visitors will have visibility to it.
4. On the content side, try to be informative, rather than plain SEO driven. Visitors will re-visit your site on their own if you have genuine information there. You do not need a search engine to direct them. |
