Swine Influenza (swine flu) is really a respiratory disease of pigs caused by type a influenza virus which regularly causes outbreaks of influenza in pigs. Swine flu viruses cause high levels of illness and low death rates in pigs. Swine influenza viruses may move among swine throughout the year, but most outbreaks occur during the late fall and winter season much like outbreaks in humans. The classical h1n1 virus (an influenza type A H1N1 virus) was first remote from a pig in 1930.

Factors that cause swine flu:

Influenza is the result of a virus. There are many forms of flu virus and these are change regularly, making it hard for the immune system to deal with. The influenza virus that creates swine flu is known as H1N1 2009, which is a form of influenza A (there are also influenza B and C viruses).

H1N1 viruses make the regular yearly flu outbreaks in humans, but swine flu is a result of different strains of H1N1. The 2009 strain of swine flu - pandemic A (H1N1) 2009 - had not previously been found in pigs or humans, and contained a mixture of genetic material from human, pig and bird flu. In other words, it was a new variety of flu, which people didn’t have much immunity to.

Flu can give you some of these signs and symptoms:

• Sudden fever - a temperature of 38°C (100.4°F) or above

• Dry, chesty cough

• Headache

• Tiredness

• Chills

• Aching muscles

• Limb or joint pain

• Diarrhoea or upset stomach

• Sore throat

• Runny or blocked nose

• Sneezing

• Loss of appetite

• Difficulty sleeping

Preventing the spread of germs is among the most effective way to slow the spread of diseases which include swine flu:

• Ensure everyone washes their hands regularly with soap and water.

• Clean surfaces regularly to get rid of germs.

• Use tissues to cover the mouth area and nose when you cough or sneeze.

• Put used tissues in a bin as quickly as possible.

Swine Flu Cure:

In line with the CDC, 'There are four different antiviral drugs that are licensed for use in the US for the treating influenza: amantadine, rimantadine, oseltamivir and zanamivir. While most swine influenza viruses have been vunerable to all four drugs, the most recent swine influenza viruses isolated from humans are resistant against amantadine and rimantadine. Currently, CDC recommends the utilization of oseltamivir or zanamivir for the treatment and/or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses.'
