My initial days in NED University

Ned was my one and only dream since my school days or rather remained my passion for so long. Passing my intermediate examination with flying colors was the fruit of my unstopping hard work that paid off pretty well. I have explained my initial days in this article, it was full of thrill, fear and nervousness. The article is a very good piece of written material to read.

I was finally admitted as an industrial and manufacturing student in Ned University. Since then I had blended feelings and emotions, fears and conceptions about university life. To further strain these fears orkut stories played a very important role. These stories provided us with tips to protect or counter ourselves if we were ragged. These were really amusing to read. Few are listed below.

    1. Never walk or roam alone in corridors, parks, canteens or anywhere else in the university premises, instead walk in groups so that you are not targeted individually.

    2. Avoid using toilets, until the ragging mania comes to end.

    3. Don’t carry enough money in your pockets or else you are sure to loose it at the hands of seniors.

    4. Hide your admission slip in your undergarments or socks or places where seniors find it difficult to get their hands on. Since it’s the most precious thing unless your university identity cards are made.

    5. Most importantly don’t pretend that you have the genius thing and avoid the unnecessary usage of English language. And if you are a complete introvert, wipe those freaky expressions off your face or else…..

To further acquaint freshies with the ‘maila pan in NED’ as they say, ragging videos of past years juniors were launched on Youtube. It was all more than enough to scare a person like me. And you wouldn’t believe I even had nightmares regarding my first day. Finally the day arrived, the very first day of ours as Nedians. To talk about myself I decided that I won’t be going university via points for at least one week. The reason was to protect myself from the scariest experiences of all times ragging..!!. As soon as I landed at the university gate I was complete blank about which path to follow that would lead me to my department. I am not really good when it comes to the portrayal of feelings and emotions. What I knew then was, to search for help; it was one extreme situation…!

However I managed to ask one senior girl student where I could find the Industrial and manufacturing department. I still thank God for sending an angel for me at that time. She was such a wonderful lady; she not only helped me locating my destiny but further advised me to look out for people who will be there to misguide me in case of certain confusions. Classes started and every teacher came up with an introductory lecture regarding the course, marking systems and most of all the importance of missing attendance. It was then break by 11am. Inexperienced as we were a bunch of us got off our seats in search of food and water. As soon as we left our room we were surrounded by few seians of our department. What happened then was a mere reflection of my nightmares..!!

Though it wasn’t that worse than other mischief happenings of money snatching and even juniors were made to dance with lipsticks and eyeshades on…and the list goes on and on. This year however I present special thank you applause to the rangers deployed in the university those days. They undoubtedly saved our day in many such situations and of course won’t be forgetting the PA offices of each department who played a memorable role in protecting the harmless juniors. Since then our entire universe revolved around our class and department. It took one whole for month for almost all freshies to recover from the haunting memories of our initial days. But now I believe to get targeted by your seniors helps you develop ties of friendship and interaction with the entire department in short time. And I think I am a little more genius in doing that…. Nevertheless can’t really ignore our first experience in Sir Shokat’s lab. In the very first class we were standing out of the lab for getting late. Since then countless times we encountered such situations, and now we are just too much used to of it. It took time for us to acquaint ourselves with the paths within the university, the rules of library and the ‘riwayats set by our seniors’. Assignments of drawing were more than enough to stop us moving. Time passed on and we learned that assignments are needed to be copied and ironically there lies no need to spend your valuable time in making them. However genius we got over every single hurdle with an extreme portrayal of courage. I remember we started bunking lectures within a month with an art that it never falls below 90 %. Gone are those days. But I am really lucky that I found very loyal and loving company, together we made each and every single day as memorable as we could.
