In the past most families were joint, complete with grandparents, granduncles & aunts. Even if the houses weren’t big enough the hearts were.
Today we are experiencing a complete reversal in family values. People prefer a nuclear family. Such families have just Mom, Dad and a kid. Children of such families are deprived of love and affection because in most cases both the parents work. They miss the fun of sharing the roof with other blood relatives. Life is monotonous and mundane. Most often they get to meet their near and dear ones only during festivals and special occasions. Modernization has truly changed the entire family scenario in India.
A joint family has its own strengths. As the wise saying goes “United we stand, divided we fall”, power diminishes when divided but increases when added. In a large family, problems can be shared and thus easily solved. Family members are like a pillar of strength, a shoulder to cry on. Living in a close knit family moulds a person into a good human. The warmth of relationships keeps the fire of hope burning in one’s heart. A joint family is like a Banyan tree, spreading its roots really far and gaining strength day by day. Celebrations can be grand only when all are together.Togetherness can also make a life grand.
