More and more these days people tend to book hotels in Paris online, through the Internet. This process can be easy and comfortable if you choose the right booking service and avoid several common mistakes people usually make when they try to book a hotel. See below how this can be done.
Advice No. 1. Surf as many hotel booking websites as possible. It never hurts to surf and compare, even if you have already chosen the hotel you want to book. The reason for this is that different booking systems may have different conditions with the hotel, lower or higher rates, more or less advantageous checkin or checkout provisions, room quota etc. For example, you may find that while Expedia tells you that the hotel has no available rooms, the Booking.com or Venere.com still are able to come up with an offering.
Advice No. 2 Learn about the hotel as much as possible. In our opinion, the most valuable things are those that come from independent travelers, such as hotel reviews or visitor surveys. Also, of great importance is to see the hotel on the map. We have seen so many travelers who did not have a minute to review more carefully the Map section of the hotel page, so that then they had to pay a great price for transportation because they found that hotel is in the suburbs of Paris, in the middle of nothing, pretty far away even from a bus station or subway.
Visitor’s reviews are an invaluable source of information no one else would ever tell you. Reading them is a must! Other travelers will tell you if the hotel is sometimes dirty, or all rooms are smoking and you will have to smell the stench during all your stay. Or, the staff is not happy to see you, nearby rail station noises make your sleep a terrible nightmare. I myself once booked a Paris hotel, and afterwards was sorry not to read travelers’ reviews beforehand, because it happened to be in the Red Light Quarter, with ladies hanging around, not a pleasant company for a family stay!
Advice 3. Compare rates from different booking providers: you will be surprised how much you can save with the right provider: take a few minutes to compare at least three, before you punch in your credit card number to secure the booking!
Advice 4. Check all hidden costs. Did the room provider tell you that all taxes/fees are included? Airport tax? Is breakfast free-of-charge? Continental or buffet? Is there airport transportation/shuttle? This is very important because otherwise you may end up taking a taxi and your ride in the end may exceed the hotel charges.
Advice 5. Most hotel booking systems offer a great deal of information about hotel facilities, services and amenities. Check the star rating. See if it is a ‘hotel’, ‘motel’, ‘B&B’ or anything else. This may be an important clue about what services they have.
Taking these simple hints for use will constitute a good basis for your right choice of a Paris hotel, with minimal cost and maximum experience.
